Tooth Crowns and Bridges in Barrie

As we age, our teeth naturally begin to age as well. Sometimes the easiest issues for you to identify in your mouth can occur when you have old metal fillings, cavities, and broken or missing teeth. You may even notice that you have stains or dark lines around the edges your existing fillings, crowns or bridgework. These things can have a negative effect on the overall appearance of your smile, and even your health.

Crown & bridge dentistry offers affordable tooth repair or replacement that does not involve dental surgery, like some other tooth replacement procedures (dental implants). Crowns and bridges can often take less chair time than dental implants, and can sometimes be a more affordable option. There are even some cases where people may not be good candidates for dental implants; this can be due to health issues or oral health concerns, and in some cases, we may recommend crown and bridgework instead of dental surgery.

What is a Crown?

Sometimes it is not possible to repair severely broken or damaged teeth using filling materials. Often, we may need to use a stronger restoration, such as a crown. A crown (or cap) covers the entire tooth above the gemlike and can restore a tooth to its original size & shape. A crown can also be prepared to protect your tooth from future damage, such as cracking or chipping. Your dentist at Barrie Smile Centre will clean out any decay in the tooth and custom design your crown to ensure a natural look and good fit. Excellent oral hygiene and routine dental check-ups with our team at Barrie Smile Centre will ensure that your new crown lasts a very long time.

What is a Bridge?

A bridge is another effective alternative for replacing missing teeth. It is sometimes even possible to replace an old existing partial denture with a porcelain fixed bridge. It is such a great feeling to not have to remove a denture every single night. Dental bridges are made to perfectly match the shape, size, and colour of your existing teeth and can give you a long-lasting, natural looking and beautiful smile.

A dental bridge procedure generally requires two appointments. The first is to prepare the teeth and take some impressions (molds) of the area. These impressions are sent off to the lab so that they can create your new bridge. The next appointment, generally one to two weeks later, is for actual placement of your new teeth. A bridge can help to prevent some of the problems which can arise from missing teeth. Good home care and regular dental check ups with our team at Barrie Smile Centre will help to prolong the life of your new bridge.

Just got home from the Smile Centre and I'm thrilled with my results. Had Zoom whitening, and it was better than I expected. The attendant took the time to explain everything super thoroughly. She warned I may have sensitivity but so far so good. I wish I did it ages ago.
